Nopalitos Naturales

One 32 ounce jar of Nopalitos.  Nopalitos are the prepared version of nopales, which are the pads of prickly pear cactus.  A Mexican favorite, nopalitos are often added to eggs for breakfast, used in salads, and as a side dish.  These nopalitos have been cut, prepared, and are brined to preserve their great flavor.  We recommend draining and rinsing or soaking in water before use, as they are quite salty right out of the jar.

We love nopalitos here at Mesa Mexican Foods!  We admit, we were a little skeptical at first about eating cactus, but we are very glad we did.  We like to saute onions, tomatoes, chiles or bell peppers, and nopalitos with a little garlic, cumin and Mexican oregano for a great addition to our burritos.  We think that the taste of nopales can best be described as a slightly tangy, lemony green bean flavor.
